Sing While You're Waiting! Part 2

0 Conversations

One of our researchers was so affected by the temporary loss of h2g2 that he felt moved to compose song lyrics!

Here are the next two examples of his efforts. More will follow next week!

Don't Blame Mark In Anger (Gallagher/Ormondroyd)

To the tune of Oasis' 'Don't Look Back In Anger'

Looking at my computer screen,

It's nowhere to be seen,

We've got no place to play.

Mark says: 'We'll be back very soon'

But the world's out of tune

While our site's away.

Is it worth emerging from my bed,

With no h2g2 to feed my head?

Stuck outside, my online time is sad.

Pack up, move on from the Towers,

And recharge our website's powers,

h2g2's never going to burn out!

(Chorus):

So, Abi can wait,

It's isn't too late as we're waiting out here,

And Peta's OK,

And don't blame Mark in anger, I hear you say.

Take us to the place where you go,

And let us all know,

We'll post another day.

And please don't put our site in the hands

Of some corporate plans,

Or take its soul away.

So I run off to a chatroom with my friends,

And I wonder if this exile ever ends,

Here, outside, Researchers come to stay.

And we hope as we log on

No shutdown and no Vogon

Is ever going to tear our website's heart out!

(Chorus)

So, Abi can wait,

We're in a sad state,

But we'll just have to try.

We won't go away,

And don't blame Mark in anger

Don't blame Mark in anger

At least not today.

The Researcher (By Simon & Ormondroyd)

Time to update 'The Boxer', I think!

I'm just a Researcher

Though my home page is on hold,

I am posting with persistence,

As they say 'It's coming back soon'

In vague promises.

It's such a test,

But what can you do but trust the Towers

And just hope for the best?

(Chorus) Life-forms lie,

Life-forms lie, lie, lie, lie, lie... (etc.)

When I first surfed to our website,

I was thrilled with what I found,

And I met some friendly strangers,

As I hitch-hiked around cyberspace

I wasn't scared.

I would go,

Seeking out the funny pages,

Where the witty people go,

Looking for the Forums only they would know.

Asking for no form of wages

I come looking for our site,

But there's just the front page,

And a come-on from the polls

Out here on Yahoo!

I do declare,

There've been times when I've been so lonesome

I've done some voting there.

Now I'm typing out my winter posts,

And waiting for the call to come home

Where the Goo and Alabaster

Will be greeting me,

Leading me to come home.

In the webspace stand hitch-hikers

And Researchers by their trade,

And we carry all the web rage,

From each error page that shut us out,

And blocked us till we cried out:
'Zark it! I don't like this game!

I am logging off and leaving!
'

But the Researchers remain...

Life-forms lie,

Life-forms lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, etc.

(Repeat till computer crashes)

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
