Abi's Community Column

Welcome to this week's Community Column; your guide to the Deputy
Community Editor's favourite places on h2g2! Are you sitting comfortably?
Then I will begin.

Community Choice

Well done to the organisers of and everyone involved in the HooToo Pub Crawl, which was a massive success by all
accounts. In fact it was so popular, they are already planning the next one!
You can also vote for your favourite
venue
from the crawl.

We are currently looking for members for a brand new club! If you know
your Harley from your Yamaha, own a CBR but want a Daytona, then why not
sign up for the brand new h2g2 Motorcycle Club.
Grab your leathers and your helmet, and let's head out on the highway...

My 5 Favourite Edited Entries

The Edited Guide is now up to 3883 entries. Here are my favourite
additions from the last week:

  • This is a cracking little entry on a piece of music that is
almost universally known, Carmina Burana. I had
a vague idea of what it is all about, but now I know the full details, I am
not sure I can ever listen to it the same way again.

  • When you are out on a winter country walk, there is nothing better
then a quick nip of Sloe Gin. It is best if it
is home-made too, so now you have the recipe, there is no excuse.

  • Should you ever get lost, you are going to need some survival tools
to get you back to civilisation. Using the sun to
    orientate yourself
could be just such a skill. Let us hope it is a
    sunny day!

  • h2g2 has produced some wonderful collaborative entries over the past
year and Mothers Day Presents is fantastic if
you are running short of ideas on what to buy her. I am just hoping my Mum
doesn't read it or she will know what she is getting next year!

  • Yoghurt Soda Bread is great fresh from
the oven with unsalted butter and a steaming bowl of homemade soup, though
you can scrap the soup, if you prefer. The bread is a little slice of
    heaven.

Ask h2g2

Every so often I drop by Ask h2g2 to see what the Community are chatting about. It
is always diverse, informed and not a little bit mad. Here are the
conversations that caught my eye over the last week:

  • Why do all men lie? I am not
sure they do, but this is a great discussion on what makes the sexes so
    different.

  • In a world of increasing quangos and non-representative bodies, the
Community are looking at the question of Democracy in Europe and the
    accountability of Eurocrats.

  • What are your views on nuclear energy? Is Sellafield a time bomb?

  • This week I have been trying to find out just how creative the
Community is with my forum Do you write
    poetry?

  • It is the start of the Hay
    Fever
season. Meet fellow Researchers with itchy eyes and runny noses
    and compare remedies.

Can't talk now dear, just off to boil the cat!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
