Picture Quiz: What Is It? (We Really Want to Know!)

To tell you the truth, we aren't sure what this object is. It was photographed in a courtyard at the old Liverpool Infirmary. It's from 1824. It could be a crematorium oven. It could also be an early autoclave. If anybody has any information, we'd really, really appreciate it. Photos are by FWR's friend Molly.

This giant object in a courtyard is a cast-iron furnace from the old morgue at the Liverpool Infirmary, 1824. But what is it for?
