CHRISTMAS POEMS

Here are all the entries, in the POST Christmas Poetry Competition.

The competition is now closed.

Now is the time for all researchers to unite and vote on which of the below poems is their favourite. The standard of poetry was incredible, and I know you are going to find it hard to find one that stands out amongst the rest.

Please read all the poems and then when you have decided, send an e-mail to me, Greebo T. Cat.

Please include your researcher name, your researcher number and the letter beside the letter of the poem of your choice. I.E. if you like the first poem in the list, then just write that you like poem A .

You have until Tuesday 17th December 2002 to get your votes to me, please don't vote for your own poem, if you have written one.

If the voting is tied then The Editor of The Post, Shazz, will have the deciding vote.

The winner will be announced in the Christmas Edition of the POST.

Forget the pain of shopping

deny the ads and sales

leave the stores and malls

The season is not avarice

it is not greed and guilt

it is not debt and bills

Love and live with peace

your family's all that counts

take some time and think

A friend of mine once asked me when Christmas starts,

to which I replied: Christmas for me,

is when there are more than 3 consecutive doll adverts on TV,

when you cannot walk down the street without hearing MOOOOOMMMY I WANTTTT

THATTTTTT!!!

When feather light,

perfect white snow creates fantastic wonderlands

only to be turned into mush by sled after sled after sled,

and you have to wonder, what anyone one in their right head,

would do with that inevitable pair of sox,

the novelty ones that were funny at first,

the ones that play 'Rudolph the red nose reindeer' every time you take a step,

the ones that you'll only wear to the office party once a year for a joke,

then of course there are the presents,

smellies, and rings,

drills and things,

something for uncle bob,

the shops seem so helpful with their 'gift guides'!!!

and you always know you'll forget someone,

then when it's finally over,

and you’re nursing you bruises from that fight over the last turkey in the shop,

hold your brandy in the air and think,

you'll do it all again next year.

War At Christmas

By Bluebottle

We're all dreaming of a Christmas that's white,

But there are countries where at Christmas they fight.

For them, the blanket over the ground is red,

Not snow, but blood of the injured, dying and dead.

There are bells that ring there at Christmas time,

The bells are gun, and they've rung always, it's a crime!

Killing and murdering, dying and death are the gifts,

All these wars cause hatred, killing and yet deeper rifts.

The tinsel is the injured, orphaned children, alone,

Children who've never seen peace, and war's all that's known.

Christmas carols there are torture and punishment;

A friendly conversation there is drowned by deadly argument.

The holly and the ivy are suffering and pain,

A world to die in, though there's nothing to gain.

The Christmas tree is a family split in two,

They must kill brother, sister, what can they do?

But Christmas there is still a time of giving,

They give each other death, misery, and stop living.

Christmas ribbons cover gifts of death as well,

They are the deadly attractions that appeal to Hell.

War is ripping countries, families, worlds apart,

Is this the Christmas spirit that's close to your heart?

The Christmas cracker are the mines left behind,

They kill innocent children, but here we don't mind.

Are you prepared to let this continuously continue?

Will you sit back and say "Merry Christmas"? What'll you do?

The Christmas cake there is cruel and does kill,

Does this seem right to you? Life's going downhill!

The Christmas spirit is kill and be killed killing,

They're not freeing, they're murdering and imprisoning.

The Christmas joy can only be felt when dead,

For how can you be happy with murder in your head?

Christmas comes once a year here, but over there,

The Christmas murder happens everyday, always, everywhere.

Christmas parties are battles, death and fights;

They're full of death's noise, there's no 'silent night'.

Joy to the world, for them, death will come.

Is this the Christmas carol that you will hum?

Try and help those who'll never know peace,

And pray that at least at Christmas, war will cease.

D

Have yourself a very sorry Christmas

By Demon Drawer

Snow is falling all around me,

Cars are snarled up in the jam.

When I get there trolleys laden,

Will then delay my dinner time.

Santa's vetted for child protection,

Giving teachers a few weeks pay.

It's a shame the season of goodwill,

Makes us so careful what we say.

Carol singers, sing of Krisha,

Veggie dishes for Hindu friends.

It's a pity I must work this Christmas

Happy holiday, message ends.

Around Christmas

By StainlessRider

Around Xmas..

Queues..

Queues..

Bloody Queues..

Get right up my throat..

and down to my scroat.

Especially if you have to send parcels anywhere as you cannot rely on the post...

Around Xmas.

Around Xmas..

Gfunch..

G-fly-urble..

Bloody Queues..

etc.

Around Xmas.

Around Xmas..

Xmas really lasts..

between 8:30 and 10:00 on Xmas day.

The rest is just pay, pay, pay..

And.. its just to displace the pagan 'Mid Winter' festival too... 'cause Jesus wasn't born in that season anyway.

Around Xmas.

Around Xmas..

To summarise..

I don’t like mince pies..

and especially the queues..

and post..

and cost..

and the general removal of all human feelings replaced by greed and grab,

grab, grab..

All HumBug !...

and.. Fact is stranger than Friction !!

Around Xmas.

F

CHRIST IS BORN!

by Unknown

...And the desert rejoiced and blossomed

And the birds of the air

And the beast of the fields

And all the tribes

And all the nations of the Earth

And all the heavens

And the Heaven

Rejoiced;

'Christ is born!'

'The prince of peace is born!'

'Thus,

Salvation

Freedom, and

Peace we've found

As the harp emitted serene

Angelic rhythms

To which the people waltzed, merried

As they rejoiced for the birth.

'Christ is born!'

'Our saviour is born!'
