This week's title is Seeing What They Saw. Clockwise from upper left: The vaulted Gothic ceiling of Saint-Louis des Chartrons in Bordeaux, a marsh harrier and a crow flying over Burton Mere, two newly-hatched budgerigars, a sun-and-rain-drenched street in Bordeaux, a birch tree seeming to grow out of a clay pot because the photographer is a wiseacre, a niche statue of Joan of Arc from inside the church of Saint-Louis, a flooded river with partially-submerged young trees, and a pigeon sitting nonchalantly atop a stone bird of prey that is some kind of war memorial in France.

They came. They saw. They took photos. We are happy. This week, we get to look, wonder, and discuss.

FWR has been to Bordeaux. This is his reward for raising clever offspring. They get teaching jobs in exotic places and invite him to visit. We get to see some of the things he saw: a stunning church, complete with militaristic statuary and stained glass. The outdoor militarism didn't get away unscathed. The symbol of peace may be a dove, but its snarky cousin the pigeon is an antiwar protestor with no respect for authority.

Back home, Paulh took a walk around and looks at flowers. Also a swan. (I think he might have been scared of it.) Paigetheoracle has a flood report. He also is far too interested in mushrooms for my liking. I put in some of his commentary so you'll know what kind of abuse I have to put up with.

SashaQ shows you the latest wonders from Burton Mere. Tavaron has a budgie update. Willem has painted us a beautiful bird. This planet continues to amaze. 'Mostly harmless', my aunt Fanny.

We have creepy fiction. Some of it is kind of intellectual. There are signs. There is cinema. I animadvert on puns, ignoring the one in the cinema review title. There is a quiz.

Read, comment, share. Believe it or not, people in the wider world actually read this stuff. Somebody on social media said my Deep Thought column from a couple of weeks ago was a 'fun read.' See? They're not all as bad as y'all are.

Have a good week and keep warm/dry/cool as needed. When you see beauty or humour, take a picture. When you see injustice, yell loudly. When you see joy, rejoice, and sorrow, offer comfort. We do what we can.

Quote of the Week. Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment.
Cleverness is mere opinion, bewilderment intuition.
