Diamonds in the Rough

Hitchin' on a twilight train...

This Challenge has already generated enough heat in the form of vituperation – directed not only at the innocent Mr Diamond, but also at me, for daring to suggest this – that I'm almost sorry I came up with it.

I said almost. I never stay repentant for long.

In case you've forgotten, the idea was to be inspired by a lyric of Neil Diamond's. Inspired to write, draw, or compose something, that is. Not to insult the fiction editor.

Next time, I shall suggest Barry Manilow.

Minorvogonpoet has given us a treat –   two1 poems inspired by Neil Diamond. (I believe her words were 'even a Vogon can do better than that.' Yep. That's why I suggested it, to get the juices flowing. Oh, and I suspect the influence of another poet here. But let the reader judge. Let's enjoy the ideas transplanted to another locale.

The Highlands, Scotland

Back to London

I never knew the rain could feel so bad
as when I cycled through the Forest
of Strathyre! Maybe we were mad
to ride our bikes across the wettest
parts of Scotland. I’ve never been so glad
to return to sunny London!
It should have been a scenic ride
round wild and lovely coasts and glens,
following Loch Lomond’s famous side,
while in Glen Coe we counted bens.
But I’ve never been so glad to hide
from rain, and travel home to London!
The rain pursued us every day,
but in the Forest of Strathyre
a gale came screeching down our way
and turned the rain to ice and fire,
while drenching feet with chilling spray.
It’s good to go to sunny London!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
